Suddenly, life makes so much more sense. I sit here and bitch and moan and wonder why I have to write dating rules for men who act like complete Neanderthals, and then one day, it all falls into place. It’s because things like this exist.
Now. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to be a hater here. Some of the posts on this site are amusing. In fact some of the shit listed are things I like. (I mean, who doesn’t enjoy a good rendition of “Sweet Caroline?”). And I know this is a tongue-in-cheek site, not to be taken seriously.
However, the trouble is, that you know and I know and the bros behind Bros Like This Site know that there are guys out there who are taking this shit seriously. There are guys who think it is acceptable to call girls “sluts” and “slam pieces” and have sex with random people without condoms and shit in inappropriate places, partially due to a culture, which includes web sites like this, that celebrates these behaviors. Somewhere along the line, a whole generation of males confused “being a man” with “being a complete sophomoric tool.” Blame Animal House, Jackass, Tucker Max, blame whatever you want, but the fact is, somewhere along the line, the defining characteristics of a “man” went from being responsible, respectful, intelligent, strong, hard-working and capable to seeing who can be the grossest, dumbest and most disrespectful.
Sure, not every guy out there prescribes to the “bro” theory of manhood, but those guys are rare, and the ones that exist are typically a) taken or b) gay. So what’s a girl to do?
In the words of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’s French maitre’d: “I weep for the future.”
There’s a new blog that I guess is supposed to be a type of response to the bro’s site: http://braslikethisite.blogspot.com/
I assume it’s meant to be satirical/not taken seriously or even a commentary on the ridiculousness of the bro’s site, but I feel like it misses the mark, and and at times find it rather offensive, regardless of intent. Maybe you could check it out and see what you think
I love Bros Like This Site and I love Bras Like This Site, though I may be biased on the second. And hey, it’s supposed to be offensive. After a hiatus the writer is back.
